Certain berries strongly inhibit the growth of cancers
Researchers found that certain berries such as raspberries, cranberries, low bush blueberries (but not highbush – they are a different species of blueberries), black and white currants, gooseberries and sea buckthorn strongly inhibited stomach, breast, prostate and colon cancers. Note that strawberries and blackberries had no protective effects. These can be easily incorporated into morning […]
Horse-radish inhibits at least one strain of swine flu
In this study they found that horse-radish inhibits the H1N1 strain of the swine flu and that the addition of caffeine resulted in a synergistic effect which further lowered mortality rates from this virus. Therefore, its cheap sushi restaurant time. You get your green tea and horse-radish (real wasabi is served only in the […]
Green Tea strongly inhibits Swine Flu
We have been researching herbs and other substances to combat the swine flu virus (SIV). While we’re not yet sure how fast it is spreading, it has the potential to be quite serious in southern California given the high incidence of travel between California and Mexico. There have been a number of deaths blamed on […]
Detox Dessert
I took this picture before I scarfed it all down. Unfortunately Brandon decided to start his spring detox 2 days before his birthday so I had to come up with something that was relatively detox-friendly yet still a treat! So I came up with a lovely pie-type thing which actually came out great. It was […]
Are organic foods really better for you?
According to a new study, it depends. Actually the study didn’t really look at organic foods, it looked at crop yield and nutrient composition. They found that the higher the yield, the lower the nutrient composition. What that means is that even if you are eating organic, it may not yield more nutrients than non-organic […]
Risk factors for Down Syndrome (HCY, MTHFR)
A New study found that homocysteine and MTHFR (a gene involved in folic acid metabolism) are risk factors in developing Down Syndrome. We discussed both of these in our lecture on improving ovarian reserve and how to reduce homocysteine and improve folate metabolism. The standard treatment is simply to take B6, B12 and folic acid, […]
31% of High Fructose Corn Syrup has Mercury in it
Thanks to our nutritionist Steve Gomberg for sending me info on this. A new study found that almost a third of the samples of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) were found to contain measurable amounts of mercury. This really emphasizes what we have been saying for so long: You can’t trust ingredients, you have to […]
Want to get pregnant? Avoid coffee … unless you smoke
We all knew that caffeine lowers your chances of carrying a successful pregnancy, but did you know that smoking can counteract that? Yes, it turns out that smoking may upregulate the enzymes that detoxify caffeine … so it doesn’t stay in your system as long to cause problems for your fertility. But don’t get too […]
Forget about pot, drink coffee
A new study looked at caffeine intake and proneness to hallucinations and found a statistically significant correlation. Of course we all know that caffeine is a stimulant, but it’s not well known that it’s psychoactive. One more reason to avoid (or consume) coffee … depending on your proclivity for hallucinating. Caffeine, stress, and proneness […]
Acupuncture improves melatonin output
A recent study looking at acupuncture’s effects on insomnia found that stimulating Ht7 increased melatonin output and improved sleep in people with insomnia. Interesting, melatonin also has protective effects on cancers such as breast cancer and it may have important ramifications for fertility, pregnancy, heart disease, and many other factors.
